Japanese Indigo – Mary Poppins Vintage Weekender

Let’s Make a Purse

I purchased this fabric when I was in the UK at The Festival of Quilts in 2018. I love all things blue Japanese Indigo cotton fabric. The handles are repurposed leather handles from a purchased leather purse.

Repurposed leather handles

The bag is a classic made from premium Japanese Indigo fabrics. The handles are used leather bag handles from a purchased bag. I hand stitched the body of the bag with Aurifil Cotton Floss pearl cotton thread. Use a short length of thread, around 12″ – 18″, to reduce tangling. Match needle according to the project and fabrics used. Aurifil’s 6-strand 100% Cotton floss is perfect for cross-stitch, applique, quilting. and big stitch.

Indigo and Big Stitching

The pattern was purchased in the UK at the Festival of Quilts 2018. I also purchased the handbag metal top frame.

Out on the Town

This Carpet Bag inspired by the Mary Poppins weekender bag she used in the movie. I just love using this bag for my everyday bag and special events
