Let’s Make Modern – Big Time

I am so excited to introduce to you my very 1st quilt pattern “Big Time”. I have been thinking about designing a quilt pattern for several years now.

Big Time

The inspiration for this quilt was a smaller quilt I made several years ago. The shapes and stitching were all very organic and created as I produced the quilt top.

The fabric I selected is from Hoffman Fabric the collection will arrive at your local fabric store in early 2020. The fabric line is called Sparkle and Fade.

I have used several of the fabrics from this design group which I feel best fit the boldness of the quilt. Modern but contemporary, the center circle shape of the quilt top along with the outer border makes this quilt so fun and very easy to create and construct.

I would like to show you how I came up with the fabrics to create this quilt. You can use the fabrics I selected or I will show you how to use the fabrics you have in your fabric collection.

Step 1 – Select the perfect fabrics.

I have selected 7 different fabrics from the Hoffman California Fabrics collection which is called Sparkle + Fade.

If you have your own fabrics it is very easy to decide what will work together.

  • First look at the pattern and decide the colors you would like to work with.
  • Choose the fabrics for the quilt pieces that are going to be sewn beside each other first and group them.
  • If a fabric matches the fabric it is toughing it does not have to match the fabric on the other side of the original fabric.
  • Next cut out the pattern and pin the pattern pieces together.
  • Stitch pattern pieces together.
Notice how I used dark and light prints
