Friday Fun – What do you want

I am in love with this jacket. Now is the time to start wearing the old quilts that just sit on a shelf. I love teaching this workshop.

Friday Fun – Quilts to cover your bones

So as I look over the large stacks of quilts I have accumulated. I have decided to create wearable art clothes using my vintage quilts. Many believe that quilts that are vintage should stay as they are. But I believe if I am an artist and truly want to expand my art I need to show others the beauty within the textile art world. So I have decided to use I few of my quilts to create clothing items.

In the same way that quilts are fashionable for your bed. Those same quilts can be fashionable for your body. Here below is an example I have a very stylish and hip bomber jacket.

We all have creativity within us. My open and encouraging teaching style allows my students the freedom to access their creativity and explore new ideas in a fun, friendly environment.
I offer positive feedback on students’ creative decisions and also on their developing skills. The technical processes of sewing and quilt construction take patience and time to learn. Solid skills can be achieved through practice over time, but they are just a small part of creating good art. Opening up to excitement and creativity can be achieved in just one class.
By the end of the first class, each student will be able to think creatively about how to express their life experiences through the projects they create. By sharing my own skills and know-how, I am able to help students give shape to their new ideas. Many times the teaching process has found me learning from my students and expanding my own creative experience.
I believe I can unlock the creative potential of every one of my students, and help each of them reach their creative goal. Now

Friday Fun – Standing up for DIY

Sometimes I just want to create and I don’t have much time. So I star with the fabric left over from other projects. I am not one for keeping fabrics around but when I have extra time to create I will look to the fabrics set aside for very special projects.

Pillow are just one project I have been able to create with repurposed denim. You can create amazing quilts from fabric or old clothing from around your home or ask your friends and family to donate to your DIY projects.

Aprons are also something I have created with fabric that is extra from other projects. I am also given fabrics and they are great for making aprons. You can create aprons using colors, fabrics designs or print by manufacture.

The head of Ephraim is Samaria and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in you faith, you will not stand at all.” Isaiah 7:9

Monday Sew – Balance

What is balance? For me balance provides stability and structure to my designs. It’s though weight distribution in the design by the placement of my element. When I talk about my elements that could mean the placement of the blocks the arrangement of the blocks the arrangement of the borders the existence of the porters and even the placement of color.

An example of balance can be achieved by simply placing a large element on one side with a design of small elements on the other side. Here is a picture of balance in one of my creations.

You dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:16

Friday Fun – Working for Fun

Proximity is one of the five basic principles of design. How close or how far or in wet alignment are the elements you’re working with arranged in your design? Are you thinking about proximity? By grouping similar elements together or in a close proximity, you create a relationship between those elements. Proximity also works with providing a focal point we’re giving the reader an idea of where they should focus their attention.

When I am creating I understand the proximity doesn’t mean at the elements have to be placed together, it means they should be visually connected in someway. I can use size, fabric colors, or shapes. The following picture as an example of proximity.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 1 Timothy 1:12
